Car park repairs to cause 40 weeks of disruption
GoogleMore than nine months of work will begin in January to repair a multi-storey car park in Mansfield.
The Four Seasons Shopping Centre car park was found to need a £2m programme of works including concrete frame repairs, deck waterproofing, drainage upgrades and resurfacing of the upper decks by a structural survey in February 2024.
But the start of work was delayed while extra structural checks were carried out following the partial collapse of the nearby Walkden Street car park.
With the integrity of the Four Seasons site now confirmed, work expected to last about 40 weeks will start on 5 January.
Mansfield District Council said shoppers will be able to use its car park while this is carried out with only partial floor closures required.
Users of TGS Gym are warned the section of the car park normally used by its customers will be unavailable during the entire renovation.
Deputy mayor Craig Whitby said it was "important" to have a "safe and secure" car park for visitors to the town centre but warned of "short-term disruptions".
He said: "The lighting will be better and there will be new signs and colour-coded flooring to make the car park easier for users to navigate and find electric vehicle charging points.
"There will also be improved walkways for pedestrians and wider parking bays in some areas and, most crucially, the car park structure will be fully repaired to secure its future safety and viability."
Chris HollowayBy comparison, Walkden Street will require a full demolition according to the council but that work has been delayed after landlord Tesco obtained a court order to carry out its own structural investigation.
The demolition had been due to start on 20 October, but has been delayed following the legal action by the retailer.
