Pay and display car park expansion weighed up
BBCHighland Council could introduce more pay and display car parks across the region after agreeing to a review of its parking strategy.
The review will focus on improving clarity around income generated from parking fees and how that money is then spent.
At a full meeting of the council on Thursday councillors from Skye and Lochaber complained about inconsistencies with the current car parking strategy.
They said it was unfair that little of the revenue raised in car parks in their areas was being reinvested locally.
Elected members of Highland Council are to take part in a workshop in the new year to help develop a new strategy.
Scottish Green councillor for Fort William and Ardnamurchan Kate Willis put forward the motion calling for the review saying there were problems with the current car parking strategy.
"Revenue collected in areas that charge for parking is subsidising costs for areas that do not charge for parking," she said.
"I look forward to a Highland-wide strategy that benefits all areas equally."
