Man arrested after attempted rape of woman in park
Getty ImagesA 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of trying to rape a woman in her 70s in a park.
The alleged incident took place in Concord Park, in the Shiregreen area of Sheffield, at about 7:30 GMT on Wednesday, South Yorkshire Police said.
The suspect was said to have assaulted and tried to rape the woman as she walked through the park. She remains in hospital with serious injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening, a spokesperson said.
The man remains in custody, with extra patrols taking place in the area. Witnesses, or anyone with information about the incident, are asked to contact police.
Alec Gibbons from the force said: "We understand that news of this incident will cause concern in the local community and I would urge anyone with questions or concerns to please speak to our officers on the ground - they are there to help you and keep you safe."
