'Whirlwind' Christmas after car crashes into pub
Mark NundyA pub landlord had "a whirlwind 48 hours" after a car crashed through the wall on Christmas morning.
Mark Nundy from the Old Kings Head in Kirton, near Boston, Lincolnshire, said he received a call at 05:30 GMT to tell him a car had crashed through the wall of his pub.
He said: "It's been a whirlwind 48 hours, but we're just glad everyone is ok, and there were no fatalities or injuries, which was our main concern."
Lincolnshire Police said an 18-year-old man had been charged with drink driving and would appear in court at a later date.
After getting the all clear from a building inspector and a local firm was appointed. to board up the gap, the pub opened to customers as planned on Saturday.
Mr Nundy added: "We are just glad no one was hurt. Unfortunately, these things happen."
Mark NundyMr Nundy said: "There were people staying in the room above the bar, but luckily we had rooms available to relocate them to in case there was anything wrong structurally.
"They were ok about it all, but they were quite shocked. They were woken around 05:20 with a big bang."
The crash took a radiator off the wall and shut down the heating system at the pub, but it was quickly repaired and heating and hot water was back in the building by 11:00.
Mr Nundy said it was "lucky" the incident had not happened at a different time as, a few hours earlier on Christmas Eve, that part of the 430-year-old pub had been "full of people".
He said: "I dread to think what could have happened if it had happened when it was busy."
Mark NundyThe pub only opened under Mr Nundy in August so, as a "small, young company", they decided not to open on Christmas Day this year, which he described as "lucky".
Mr Nundy added: "It could have been a lot worse – someone could have been injured.
"All you can do is deal with it."
He said he hoped insurers would soon "appoint the right people" to fix the damage at the pub, and that they would take the building's heritage into account.
