Firefighters have tackled a blaze on a railway embankment in Devon.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said an area off Broadsands Park Road in Paignton was well alight.

It said the fire, covering about 300 square metres, started at 13:15 BST on Saturday and three appliances were in attendance.

The service said the railway line was reopened to trains after a short period of time.

The fire service said the blaze broke out near the viaduct.

"It's on the railway line to the rear side of Broadsands Park Road, Paignton," it said.

The fire service said crews used water jets from a bridge and a railway bowser to extinguish the fire.
