Duke of Gloucester to take over as museum patron

The Duke of Gloucester is to take over as patron of the Brighton & Hove Museums charity in East Sussex.

He will take over from his cousin King Charles III, who gave up the role after ascending to the throne in 2022.

The Duke will visit the city in 2025.

The charity manages the Brighton Pavilion, Brighton Museum and Art Gallery, Preston Manor, Hove Museum and Art Gallery and the Booth Museum of Natural History.

CEO of Brighton & Hove Museums Hedley Swain said: “It was lovely to be informed by Buckingham Palace that The Duke would take on the role. We are thrilled he is giving our charity his support.

“The Duke has a background in heritage and architecture and is associated with several other charities in the sector. We look forward to welcoming him to the Royal Pavilion and our other venues.”
