Dairy addresses concerns over milk shelf life
BBCA dairy company has addressed concerns people have expressed on social media about the shelf life of its products.
Jersey Dairy put a post up saying "many people ask why our Jersey milk stays so fresh" following some comments from people on social media suggesting the milk contained chemicals or preservatives.
The dairy denied this and said the long shelf life was as a result of "modern pasteurisation and excellent hygiene".
The dairy added: "Our 14 day shelf life sits comfortably within the normal 12 to 21 day range for pasteurised milk."
Jersey Dairy said it held BRCGS Grade AA status which is the highest possible rating for food safety and quality.
Comments from people included "I've had a carton open for two weeks past the use by date with no issues at all" and "the weird thing is that it lasts way longer than the date on the carton".
In response the dairy said: "Milk stays fresher today thanks to excellently managed farms, rapid cooling, strong temperature control, efficient pasteurisation and spotless filling and packaging."
