Crisp packet from 1989 found by litter-picker
Laura BrennanA crisp packet from 1989 was found among rubbish that volunteers cleared away from woodland in Leeds.
Laura Brennan, 36, discovered the empty packet of salt and vinegar flavoured Discos - which is as old as she is - in an area near her home in Cottingley last week.
Brennan was part of a team of volunteers who managed to fill 20 plastic bags with rubbish on 10 February. Items previously found by the group included a sofa, a knife, a bed and a toilet.
She said: "We could fill 200 bags and the next morning you will see litter. It is just so annoying."
"The crisp packet was dug into the muck, it was horrible, but we did our best. I just like to make a difference."
The best before date on the crisp packet - November 1989 - revealed the age of the litter.
Laura BrennanFor context, back in 1989 the world witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall, Apple launched its first portable computer and Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web.
Brennan said she and her family regularly helped to clean up their neighbourhood.
"My little girls are four and seven - they should be playing but they prefer to come out and do a litter pick with me, it shouldn't be like that," she said.
Laura BrennanDiscos crisps were first launched in 1979 by brand KP Snacks and continue to be sold by the firm.
