Vandalism brings BMX club closer together
Dan SmithA BMX club says an attack by vandals has brought its members closer together.
Telford Flyers discovered the damage last Friday, just weeks before it was due to host a regional championship event.
Club secretary Dan Smith said a fence had been smashed and there was offensive graffiti on the track, cabins and signs.
He said volunteers had come to help the Shropshire club from all over the West Midlands and the incident "shows how much people care and will drop things and come out and help".
Mr Smith said the club had only been running for a couple of years and the clean-up operation had "accelerated the bonding process".
The club said the police had been informed and it had installed CCTV cameras, to protect the track from further attacks.
Telford Flyers
Telford FlyersOn 4 August up to 500 competitors and 1,000 spectators are expected to arrive at the track for the Midlands Championships.
A previous club which used the track had held larger events, Mr Smith said, but this would be the biggest for the recently-formed Telford Flyers.
