The EasyJet flight from Belfast International Airport to Hurghada finally left on Sunday evening more than 30 hours after it was originally scheduled to depart

An EasyJet flight from Belfast to Egypt which was cancelled on Saturday due to a "group of customers behaving disruptively onboard" has taken off.

The airline said as a result, the plane was "attended by police prior to departure".

Flight EZY3077, from Belfast international Airport to Hurghada, had been due to depart from Belfast International Airport at 12:55 GMT on Saturday but departed at 19:43 GMT on Sunday.

In a statement, EasyJet said it took such "incidents seriously" and did not "tolerate disruptive behaviour onboard".

'Outside our control'

The airline added: "Unfortunately this delay led to the crew reaching their safety regulated operating hours which has resulted in the flight being rescheduled to tomorrow [Sunday] and we are providing customers with hotel accommodation and meals.

"The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is always EasyJet's highest priority and while this was outside of our control, we are sorry for the inconvenience this will have caused."

The flight on Sunday had been due to depart at 06:45 GMT but a spokesperson for Belfast International Airport said the later departure had been due to the weather and slot issues.
