Cost blamed for cancellation of Pride 2026 event
Joe Giddens/PA WireA Pride celebration due to take place in part of West Yorkshire later this year will not now go ahead, with organisers blaming the cost of staging such an event for the cancellation.
In a statement, the team behind Calderdale Pride 2026 said the decision not to run the event, which would have been held in Halifax, had been taken "with a heavy heart".
"We fundraise all year round and with the help of incredible sponsors over previous years, we have been able to achieve this. This year however has proven to the toughest yet," they said.
Organisers said that fundraising efforts and the search for sponsors for Calderdale Pride 2027 were continuing, adding: "We cannot wait to return."
In their statement, the organisers explained: "We have seen the difficulties small Prides have faced along with the major Pride events in the UK.
"With a difficult environment to apply for grants and funding, of which we have previously been successful in, we have had no choice but to come to this decision.
"There will be events coming your way very soon and hopefully this extra time helps us raise the much needed funds," they said.
"Please keep supporting your local Prides. We need you more than ever," the organisers added.
