Everyone with the right to vote in Jersey could be automatically registered for elections if plans from a States committee are approved.

The Privileges and Procedures Committee (P&P) said this change would make it easier for people to vote and therefore increase the democracy of Jersey's elections.

If approved, it would replace the current system where people have to fill in a paper form and send it to their parish.

The States is due to debate the proposals later this month.

Only 42% of registered voters took part in the 2022 elections, which had a "detrimental effect" on the island's international reputation, P&P said.

The proposal would also mean removing public access to the register, P&P said.
