Family heartbreak after woman dies in layby crash
Hertfordshire PoliceA family have described their heartbreak after a woman died when a vehicle hit her as she stood in a layby.
Michelle Strachan, 60, had stopped on her way to work when it happened at about 08:50 GMT on 5 January, on the A10 between Hertford and Broxbourne.
Hertfordshire Police said the vehicles involved included a grey Porsche Cayenne, a red Fiat 500, which the woman had been driving, and a white Volvo tipper lorry- the last two had been stationary.
The driver of the Porsche, a man in his 60s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed by police.
In a tribute written by her family, they said the woman was "the heart of our immediate and wider family", and her death left "behind many broken hearts".
It continued: "She wanted the best for everyone and always went out of her way to support those who she could help with selflessness.
"Michelle will be missed by all who knew her well, but her senseless death, on a normal Monday, on her way to work, has left we, her family, utterly bereft."
