A man has admitted causing the death of a woman in a car crash.

Claire Laybourne, 39, from Hebburn, South Tyneside, died following a collision on the A19 in Holystone, North Tyneside, on 5 December.

Ryan Scott, 28, of Chasedale Crescent, Blyth, pleaded guilty earlier this month to causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and causing death while uninsured.

Scott appeared at Newcastle Crown Court on Wednesday where he was further remanded in custody for sentencing on 23 February.

The crash happened at about 22:40 GMT and involved a Volkswagen T-roc and a Skoda Fabia, which were both travelling on the northbound carriageway.

Laybourne died in hospital the next day.

Her family described her as an "extraordinary mother, a devoted partner, a cherished daughter, a loving auntie and a loyal friend".
