Wastewater plants receive £7.5m upgrade
Southern WaterA refurbishment project worth £7.5m has been carried out at wastewater plants in the South East.
The work was carried out by Southern Water at sites in Slinfold, West Sussex, and Forest Green, in Surrey.
At Slinfold £4m was spent on equipment to remove phosphorous and increase its capacity to cope with heavier rainfall.
At Forest Green £3.5m has been spent on improvements including two new septic tanks and two settlement tanks.
Robin Woodward, project manager for Southern Water, said: "This is another important step in improving the health of our local rivers and streams.
"It's part of our wider commitment to raising water quality across the region."
