Temporary speed limit to return to Rest and Be Thankful

Speed limits and temporary traffic signals are to be reintroduced at the Rest and Be Thankful on the A83 from Monday as improvement works resume on the Argyll road.

Transport Scotland said the 30mph speed limit was being reinstated to ensure the safety of both workers and motorists during the work, which had been paused for the festive season.

Traffic signals will initially be located at the Cobbler Bridge to allow landslide barrier maintenance and drainage work to be completed, before later moving north for hillside stabilisation and barrier enhancements.

The programme of work is scheduled to last until the summer.

The work is being handled by Bear Scotland, which manages and maintains trunk roads in the north west of Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland.

Euan Scott, Bear Scotland's north west unit representative said: "These works are all essential improvements to ensure resilience of the A83 at the Rest and Be Thankful.

"We are pleased with the progress made so far and our crews will continue working with safety as our top priority. We thank the local community and road users for their patience while we carry out these essential works."

The temporary traffic signals will be in place 24 hours a day, and access for emergency services and scheduled bus services will be maintained throughout the project.
