Search for driver after police officer struck by car
GoogleA search is under way for a driver after a police officer was hit by a car in Oakham.
Leicestershire Police said two officers approached a grey Honda CRV that was illegally parked in High Street at 15:12 GMT on Monday.
The motorist refused to engage with them, the force said, before driving at one of the officers, who mounted the bonnet before landing on the pavement.
The car then struck two stationary vehicles before leaving the scene, while the officer was left with minor cuts and grazes.
The car involved was found abandoned in Harrington Way a few hours later, and detectives are now attempting to trace the driver.
Det Insp Jim Willoughby said: "We are urgently trying to find the man responsible for this incident.
"Luckily the officer was not seriously injured, but this doesn't take away from the fact that he was driven at and hit by a car in order for the man to evade police.
"We have already recovered CCTV from the area and carried out a number of house-to-house inquiries, but our investigation continues and we want to hear from anyone who can provide any information."
