An MP has been hailed a hero for helping save the life of one of his constituents who had a heart attack.

Greg Stafford, the MP for Farnham and Bordon, performed CPR on Chris Storey, 76, after he collapsed in a car park.

Mr Storey, from Wrecclesham, Surrey, said: "I always thought he was a good man and now he is a hero to us."

The Conservative MP said was "not a superhero" but "just in the right place at the right time".

Mr Storey, the local Conservative party chair, collapsed in a car park in Farnham just after a meeting with the MP.

He told BBC Radio Surrey: "If he hadn't been there I wouldn't be here now.

"I remember getting very light-headed and that was it before I woke up in the back of the ambulance."

Mr Stafford, who was elected at the 2024 general election, said: "Chris just collapsed on the floor, keeled over like a sack of potatoes.

"He hit his head on the floor and there was blood coming out."

The MP called 999 and was talked through how to do CPR.

He said he had "no medical training" but had done a CPR course "some years back".

Mr Storey started coming round and was taken to hospital where he had a stent put in.

He later underwent a triple heart bypass.

Mr Stafford said: "It was a shocking incident but I was just pleased to be able to do something to help him.

"Having the professionals there was really essential as they are the real superheroes.

"The real thing it taught me was to brush up on my CPR skills. You never know when this is going to happen to you."

Mr Storey said he was now feeling "really good" and was about to start treatment for ongoing cardiac rehabilitation.

He added: "I'm not in pain and the scars are healing up gradually."

Judith Storey, his wife of 47 years, said: "Greg was amazingly calm. He was just brilliant.

"There are no words big enough to express our gratitude for giving us more tomorrows."
