Partygoers at a Falkirk nightclub were kept waiting at the weekend after special guest Martin Kemp got stuck in a lift.

The Spandau Ballet bassist was due appear at the town's XOXO on Princes Street for a daytime Valentine's Day DJ set.

But his appearance was delayed for an hour while the star and five others were rescued by firefighters.

Kemp shared a video of the emergency response on Instagram with his 682,000 followers.

He wrote: "Stuck in a lift for an hour!! Before tonight's gig at City Falkirk… but I still had fun# thank you so much Falkirk Fire Brigade for rescuing all of us!!!!"

Despite the delay, the former Eastenders actor took to the decks to play some 80s hits as part of his UK tour.

The set marked his return to the Falkirk nightclub following a sell-out event in April last year.

Gary McArthur, crew commander at Slamannan Community Fire Station, led the response to the incident after the alarm was raised on Saturday.

He said: "Our crews are used to being called out to rescue members of the public who are stuck within lifts - but we had no idea when we managed to open the lift that Martin Kemp was going to be on the other side.

"We are glad everyone was safe and in good spirits despite the incident and Martin was still able to make it to his gig in Falkirk."
