Police hunt youths throwing stones at city trams
Nottinghamshire PolicePolice in Nottingham have vowed to tackle youths causing trouble on the city's tram network.
It follows a number of recent incidents in which stones and other items were hurled at moving trams, officers said.
On 18 February a tram window was damaged near Southchurch Drive and four days later a window was smashed as a tram passed Silverdale Walk.
Nottinghamshire Police said the crackdown will include extra patrols, increased use of stop-and-search powers and home visits to anyone found to be involved.
The force said it had also received reports of young people climbing on trams, playing on the tracks and other anti-social behaviour.
Insp Steve Dalby, neighbourhood policing inspector for City South, said: "Thankfully no one has been hurt in these incidents but throwing projectiles at a moving tram is extremely dangerous.
"We are also concerned that young people are risking serious injury every time they trespass on the tram network.
"We will deal robustly with those found to be involved."
Shaun Kenneth, service delivery and security manager at tram operator NET, said: "Over the coming weeks we'll continue to work closely with Nottinghamshire Police during their ongoing investigations into the incidents, while continuing to work towards helping to prevent future incidents."
