Main regeneration work starts in town centre
The main phase of redevelopment work on Northampton town centre has started.
After a public consultation in 2023, West Northamptonshire Council put forward plans to rejuvenate Abington Street and Fish Street.
The council said new paving, seating, additional trees and landscaping were included in the plans.
Investigatory works were carried out in September 2023, with preparatory works carried out in autumn.
'Revitalised area'
There will be a dedicated single point of contact for any businesses affected by the works.
Dan Lister, cabinet member for economic development, town centre regeneration and growth at the Conservative-run council, said he was "delighted" to see the project progressing.
"Once complete, the revitalised area and enhanced features will offer a fantastic space for people to use and enjoy," he said.
The work is part of a multi-million pound regeneration of Northampton town centre, which includes work to the Market Square and the demolition of the former Marks & Spencer and BHS department stores.
