Polls have now closed in the Holborn and St Pancras by-election as counting gets under way to see who voters have picked to be their new MP.

About 30 polling stations - at churches and community centres - in the north London constituency were open from 07:00 BST until 22:00, with ballot boxes taken to the count centre straight after.

The seat became vacant after former prime minister Sir Keir Starmer announced he was standing down to focus on a role in international affairs.

Some 15 candidates stood in the by-election. Counting will take place overnight with the result expected to be announced in the early hours of Friday.
