Fly-tipper fined after dumping 11 fridges

A man has been ordered to pay more than £1,500 for fly-tipping 11 fridge-freezers.

Victor Rotundu of Cobham Road, Bristol, pleaded guilty at North Somerset Magistrates Court on 15 December for fly-tipping on Yanley Lane in Long Ashton.

In June 2023, he left 11 fridge-freezers on the lane and was spotted by a local resident who reported the vehicle registration number.

Councillor Annemieke Waite said: "Fly-tipping is completely unacceptable. It has a negative impact on our local environment and communities."

Police officers found Rotundu hired a vehicle at the time of the offence.

Magistrates ordered him to pay £1,518 - a fine of £200 and North Somerset Council's full costs of £1,318.

Ms Waite, North Somerset Council's executive member responsible for climate and waste, added: “The council will vigorously investigate all fly-tipping incidents and issue fixed penalty notices or prosecute individuals when sufficient evidence is found."
