Woman in 80s dies after car hits truck in layby

An woman has been killed after the car she was travelling in crashed into a truck that was parked in a layby.

The woman in her 80s was a passenger in a grey Volkswagen Golf that was driving on the A4280 St Neots Road just outside Bedford.

Police were called to reports of a collision with a white Renault truck at about 14:45 GMT on Thursday.

The Golf's driver, also in his 80s, was taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Bedfordshire Police said emergency services attended but the woman died at the scene.

Officers are appealing for witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage from before or after the collision to get in touch.
