NHS boss warns of hospitals' rising winter pressure
EPAA medical director has warned that NHS services were likely to be very busy amid winter pressures and rising seasonal illnesses and viruses.
Frankie Swords, from NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board, has encouraged people to do all they could to look after their health and wellbeing before Christmas.
People have been urged to book in for vaccinations, be prepared for minor illness and injuries and go to 111 for advice.
"Even though it's a few weeks to go until Christmas, NHS services are already very busy and now is a good time for people to think ahead, and consider how they can best look after themselves and be prepared," she said.
Amongst the advice, people are reminded there is still an opportunity for people to receive vaccinations, including for Covid and flu.
Dr Swords said: "The vaccination doesn't just protect you either. You are also protecting those older and vulnerable people around you, many whom you may be seeing over the holiday season."
NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care BoardShe has also advised regular handwashing to prevent the spread of sickness and germs including norovirus.
Advice also includes having a supply of medicine cabinet basics such as paracetamol, cough and cold remedies and plasters and to seek advice from pharmacies or the NHS 111 service, which can also provide mental health support.
Health and care partners in Norfolk and Waveney have also been encouraging people to support loved ones in leaving hospital as soon as they are well enough to do so.
Industrial action by resident doctors in England is due to take place between 07:00 GMT on 17 December to 07:00 on 22 December.
GP practices and pharmacies will remain open and people have been urged to attend any appointments unless informed otherwise.
