Machete-wielding attacker jailed over crime spree
South Yorkshire PoliceA teenager who chased a man up a street armed with a machete and then attacked his home has been jailed.
Jayden Johnson, 18, was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court after pleading guilty to a string of charges, including the sword attack.
South Yorkshire Police said all the offences had taken place during a five day period in May 2025.
Johnson, of no fixed abode, was sentenced on Wednesday to five years and seven months at a Young Offenders' Institution.
A police spokesperson said the offending began on 11 May, when Johnson threatened a man he had arranged to buy a car from before driving off in the vehicle.
Less than 24 hours afterwards he stole a mobile phone after assaulting a member of the public.
Three days later Johnson was seen running up Chapel Lane, in Thurnscoe, brandishing a machete before smashing a door window as he tried to injure a person inside who he had previously threatened to kill.
Johnson pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated burglary, making threats to kill, possession of a bladed article in a public place, assault, theft and robbery.
Det Con Chelsea Russell, said: "Those that call our communities home should not expect threats or fear of violence while going about their daily lives.
"Johnson repeatedly targeted one victim and wreaked havoc on a number of others who he targeted with his threatening and persistent behaviour."
