An ambulance service has officially opened its new base in Dorset.

South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) opened its new main operating base for the county in Ferndown on Friday after work started in spring 2025.

It integrates departments previously based in Bournemouth and Wimborne ambulance stations and operational teams from St Leonards.

SWASFT said it marked a "significant milestone" in its "ongoing investment in modern facilities".

Its chief executive John Martin said: "Bringing teams together under one roof will strengthen collaboration, improve operational efficiency and ultimately enhance patient outcomes.

"We are proud to see this investment become a reality and grateful to everyone who has supported its delivery."
