Deputy Gavin St Pier said he and his wife were arrested on 3 December and released without charge

The president of Guernsey's top political committee has said it will "maintain a neutral position" after its vice-president was arrested over a complaint about alleged harassment.

Deputy Gavin St Pier and his wife Jane said they were arrested on 3 December and released without charge. Police said inquiries were ongoing.

Deputy St Pier said they "deny any wrongdoing whatsoever".

Policy and Resources (P&R) President Lindsay de Sausmarez said St Pier would "continue to fulfil his committee responsibilities".

Deputy de Sausmarez said: "The committee does not believe it would be appropriate to take any action until the police investigation has concluded.

"Until then, the committee will maintain a neutral position."
