More residents to have kerbside recycling

Residents of St Martin will have their recycling collected from the kerbside, leaving only two parishes where residents have to take their recycling to designated sites.

The Parish Assembly said the cost for the collection of materials such as paper, plastics and cardboard would be included in the annual parish rates paid by residents of the area.

It means 10 parishes now offer the service, leaving Grouville and St Clement as the only two offering glass and not recycling collections, where residents have to take their recycling to designated sites.

Information on collection dates for St Martin will be included on the parish website.

Parish Constable Karen Shenton-Stone said she was delighted to introduce the initiative that was first voted for in 2021 but delayed by lack of contractors.

"Kerbside recycling is already part of life in nine other parishes, and St Martin is pleased to be joining this near island-wide effort to reduce, re-use and recycle," she said.

"I should like to express my sincere thanks to Parishioners for their patience and support as we sought the means to deliver this important initiative."
