A man has denied murdering a man whose body was pulled from a canal in Birmingham nearly six years ago.

Darren Round, 48, suffered injuries to his face before ending up in the water near Masshouse Lane, Kings Norton, in February 2020.

Appearing at Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday via a video link, Cain Watson, of Dornie Drive, Birmingham, pleaded not guilty to Round's murder.

The 33-year-old also denied a charge of manslaughter in connection with the death.

Judge Andrew Smith KC told Watson his trial was set to start on 1 June and was expected to last from two to three weeks.
