Liverpool city centre on-street parking costs are expected to rise

The cost of parking in a city centre is set to increase from April, with some areas facing rises of up to 20%.

As part of an annual review of fees and charges, Liverpool City Council has proposed the higher costs for on-street parking spaces.

When the cabinet meets later, members will be asked to endorse plans to increase charges across the city, by an average of 11%.

This will be for council-maintained locations both on the street and in car parks.

Charges on the street at the moment are varied.

A 30-minute stay in the city centre will increase from £2 to £2.30, with an hour going up to £4.40 from £4.

A two-hour bay will increase from £6 to £6.50.

Stays will also be extended after 18:00.

Despite free parking coming to an end, evening parking stays will be increased from four hours to five hours and will cost £10.60.

Council-owned car parks will also be subject to increased fees.

Mount Pleasant, Victoria Street, the M&S Bank Arena and Paddington Village are also expected to go up by an average of more than 8%.

In a report to be considered by city leaders, council officers said the wider increase of fees and charges would "support financial recovery and sustainability" for the local authority.

Liverpool City Council maintained that the fees would remain competitive.

The report said on-street charges would remain cheaper than other major UK cities and off-street car parks would remain cheaper than the average fee for private sector car parks in Liverpool for the majority of parking periods.
