People are being advised not to be alarmed if they see actors dressed as armed police officers or simulated emergency scenes around the Palace of Westminster and the River Thames this weekend.

Bad Wolf, the production company behind shows including Doctor Who, His Dark Materials and Industry, will be filming in the area on Saturday and Sunday.

The production is a Netflix series called The Lords' Day, adapted from Michael Dobbs's novel about a siege at the Houses of Parliament during the State Opening of Parliament.

A UK Parliament spokesperson said the activity was "part of a controlled and authorised production, and there is no incident or emergency on the parliamentary estate".

Specialist vehicles will also be used during filming, with signs in place to let people know what is happening.

The Houses of Parliament have featured in a number of productions over the years, including Darkest Hour, Suffragette and Anatomy of a Scandal.
