A man suffered head injuries and a broken arm when he was attacked with a hammer.

Derbyshire Police said the 27-year-old was injured by a man at the junction of Sunningdale Avenue and Roper Avenue in Heanor at about 07:00 GMT on Saturday.

He was taken to hospital for treatment while detectives launched an investigation into the assault.

The force said it believed the men were known to each other and the attack was an "isolated incident".
