Two new developments could be built either side of Springwell Lane in Whetstone

Plans to create more than 170 homes across two developments in Whetstone are set to be approved, despite dozens of objections.

The estates would be built either side of Springwell Lane in the village, with 115 properties on the west side of the road and 59 homes on land to the east.

A number of objections were made about the projects, with opponents of the eastern development raising concerns over flooding, traffic, pressures on schools, and a lack of green space.

Blaby District Council's planning committee has been recommended to approve the developments when it meets on Thursday.

Proposals for the eastern development, which was originally for 69 homes but was later reduced to 59, were put forward by developer David Wilson Homes.

Miller Homes is the developer behind the western development.

According to the planning documents, the majority of existing hedgerows and mature trees will be protected, while new trees will also be planted.

As part of the developments, 14 affordable homes would be created on the eastern development, while 29 would be created on the western estate.

Contributions would also be expected from the developers towards nearby Cosby Library and the Whetstone Household Waste and Recycling Centre.

In a report to the committee, planning officers stated the harms associated with the developments would not outweigh the benefits.
