Developers are planning to convert the NatWest bank building in Alfreton into flats and a commercial unit

New flats have formed part of a proposal to redevelop a former bank in Derbyshire.

A commercial unit would also be created at the NatWest bank site in Chesterfield Road, Alfreton, plans submitted to Amber Valley Borough Council show.

The bank was one of eight NatWest centres in Derbyshire earmarked for closure in 2025, with a reduction in in-person banking among the reasons given by the organisation.

According to the planning documents, the building would be subdivided to make way for the flats, but the external appearance would be unchanged.

Five new windows are also set to be installed to provide natural light for the new flats.

Just one of the windows will be visible from the street, and has been designed to "match the existing historic stone detailing, proportions, and materials".

The development would also "support the continued viable use of the building while preserving its contribution to the streetscape", documents added.
