A woman has said she was "shocked and afraid" after she was woken up by vandals who threw paint and smashed windows at the takeaway where she works.

Michelle Ng was woken by a loud bang at 03:45 GMT on Thursday as three people were causing damage to the Golden Bowl Chinese Takeaway in Ilkeston, Derbyshire.

Derbyshire Police has launched an investigation and anyone with information or CCTV footage is asked to contact the force.

"I feel insecure right now, I haven't slept since," said Ms Ng.

Neighbouring properties in Cotmanhay Road were also affected

Ms Ng started working at the Golden Bowl, which opened earlier this year, two months ago.

She recalled seeing three people through the curtains of her flat during the incident.

"I saw they splashed the paint and then they ran away,” she added.

She said she was too afraid to inspect the damage until dawn, at which point she realised one of the windows and a door had also been smashed.

She estimated the overall cost to replace the broken door and window would be about £5,000.

Ms Ng said she opened the shop the following day and continued normal service but added she was concerned some customers might have been put off.
