More than 750 free trees are to be handed out at libraries across Surrey next week.

The giveaways form part of Surrey County Council's bid to help plant 1.2 million trees - one for each resident - by 2030.

Events will run on Saturday 7 February across seven libraries: Banstead, Byfleet, Egham, Ewell Court, Guildford, Redhill and Virginia Water.

Marisa Heath, cabinet member for environment and planning, said it was "a great opportunity for residents to be part of a Surrey legacy while tackling the impact of climate change and improving biodiversity".

Native broad‑leaved saplings will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Each tree will be supplied with a stake, guard and planting guide to support residents in caring for their saplings at home.
