A western section of the Isle of Man's TT course has been closed to allow for "essential works" following Storm Chandra.

The A3 has been shut between Douglas Road Corner in Kirk Michael and Ballig Bridge in St John's to allow for a "significant amount of debris" to be removed, said the Department of Infrastructure (DOI).

The debris caused blockages in the surface water drainage systems at several locations, the DOI said, leading to an increased risk "localised flooding".

It said a full road closure was deemed necessary between 10:00 and 12:00 GMT because there was only "limited visibility" in some areas.

Severe gales brought by Storm Chandra caused widespread travel disruption on Tuesday, with several trees brought down, particularly in the west of the island.

Diversions have been put in place via the Michael to Peel Coast Road and the Poortown Road during the planned closure.
