A police officer has been charged with assaulting a woman while dealing with a domestic dispute.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said Calum Brand, from West Midlands Police had been called to an address in Halesowen on 16 June, to detain a man wanted on a warrant.

The 26-year-old PC is accused of attacking the suspect's partner while officers were attempting to detain the man.

Brand is due to make a first appearance before Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

The IOPC said the force asked it to investigate on 4 July and a file of evidence was presented to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) on 18 November.

It said the Crown Prosecution Service then decided to authorise one charge of assault by beating on 16 December.
