Ferocious waves have battered the north-east England coast in recent days as stormy weather swept across the country.

Photographers captured the imposing sea as it crashed into land.

More adverse weather is on the way, as parts of the region are under a Met Office yellow weather warning for snow and rain on Tuesday.

Forecasters warned heavy rain in parts of County Durham and Northumberland, including Allendale, Barnard Castle and Stanhope, could turn to snow over high ground which may lead to some travel and power disruption.
