States spent £2.9m on key worker housing - figures
BBCThe States of Guernsey spent more than £2.9m on housing for key workers last year, according to new figures.
The figures released by the Policy and Resources Committee (P&R) said the money was used to pay for 245 beds over the year, ranging from hotel rooms to shared housing.
Key workers may have their rent subsidised by the States, but are still typically expected to contribute towards the cost.
This means the actual cost to the States of key worker housing was about £1.1m after rent was paid by tenants.
The States said the average room rate was £645 a month while the average hotel room rate was £46 a night.
The costs included charges such as utilities, parish rates and insurance.
The figures were released following a written question from Deputy Chris Le Tissier using Rule 14 of the States' rules of procedure.
