DFDS route director Chris Parker said there are hurdles to the firm offering longer day trips from Jersey to St Malo in France

A ferry firm said it wanted to offer longer day trips from Jersey to France next year - but docking space had been a hurdle.

DFDS route director Chris Parker told Jersey's Economic and International Affairs Panel the company inherited former contract holder Condor's harbour slots, which were not always suitable.

Mr Parker said the firm had worked on plans to keep its vessels in St Malo for as long as it possibly could.

He added with only one working ramp and the use of a temporary berth at the French port, turnaround times were tight.

"We have worked to try and stretch the length of time that we are in St Malo for as long as possible," Mr Parker told the panel.

"It also takes longer to load and discharge on the temporary berth."

DFDS took over Jersey's ferry services in March after winning a 20-year contract from the island's government.
