Plans submitted for 3,500-home estate near Grimsby
GooglePlans have been submitted for a housing development of up to 3,500 homes in North East Lincolnshire.
The Grimsby West development would include an access road, two community hubs, and primary and secondary schools.
If approved, it would be built near Great Coates, between the A46 and A1136.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the development would include a country park, sports pitches and landscaping.
A masterplan for the development was discussed by councillors at North East Lincolnshire Council in October, but a scrutiny panel called for more details about flood risk, the country park and other elements.
The proposals have attracted criticism over the years, LDRS said, including protests outside full council meetings, organised by the Save the Freshney Valley campaign group.
A group of independent councillors were also elected between 2022 and 2024, with opposition to the development at the heart of their political platform.
Grimsby West LLP, a joint venture between the Harworth Group and M F Strawson Ltd, is behind the plans.
The developer said it had held detailed discussions with North East Lincolnshire Council since early 2024, as well as a public consultation and workshops with other stakeholders.
