A firefighter has said taking part in BBC TV show Gladiators has been the "best experience ever".

Millie Margetts, from Cleethorpes, said being in the show was surreal but "your adrenaline just takes over, and you just absolutely go for it."

Margetts, who is also a CrossFit coach in Grimsby, is holding a watch party at The Wheatsheaf in the town for colleagues and friends on Saturday evening to see how she got on.

Series three of the programme started on 24 January and each episode involves four contestants who compete in events against the show's resident elite athletes, the Gladiators.

Margetts said her job at Immingham East Fire Station required her to be fit and have upper body strength - but her CrossFit coaching role had also been a "massive help".

Despite her training, she said she was not sure what to expect ahead of the event, or how she was going to feel.

"It's tough," she said.

"The Gladiators are fierce. They're strong, but honestly, it was the best experience ever.

"I wish I could relive it," she added.

Some of her firefighting colleagues went to the Utilita Arena in Sheffield, where the event was filmed, to watch her compete.

Firefighter Adam Boulton said he was extremely proud of her.

"She worked so hard to get on there, and then once she was on, she was just brilliant," he said.

Gladiators airs on Saturday at 17:45 GMT on BBC One and the BBC iPlayer.
