Strive to submit new hotel application
BBCThe managing director of a health club in Jersey has confirmed it will put in a revised bid to build a hotel on its site next year.
Strive in St Peter had its application for a six-storey hotel and conference centre refused by the island's planning committee in November.
The project had support from the island's business and tourism sectors, but faced opposition from some residents and politicians.
Managing director Ben Harvey said they had decided to put in "a revised application in the new year rather than an appeal".
In a statement Mr Harvey said his team had been "working very hard in conjunction with the planning department and various government consultees as one team to ensure [they] address the reasons for refusal".
All seven members of the planning committee supported the idea of a hotel on the site during November's meeting, however, several expressed reservations about the proposed building's size and overall scale.
The committee also highlighted the application conflicted with 21 policies outlined in the Bridging Island Plan, the framework governing land use across Jersey.
During the vote, most members aligned with the planning department's recommendation and decided the application should be refused.
It has now been confirmed the plans will be revisited in the new year.
A revised application is expected to be presented to the planning committee in February or March 2026.
