The death of a young rising darts star in a car crash in Doncaster is a "devastating loss", a spokesperson for the sport has said.

Keigan Vickerage, 18, died after the car he was a passenger in hit a tree on Chestnut Avenue, Carcroft, at about 00:05 GMT on Wednesday.

He played in the amateur Wheatsheaf Darts League with his brother Bailey and was described as an "up-and-coming" champion.

The Amateur Darts Circuit said he was a "young man who made a big impression on many people".

Circuit spokesman Simon Rimington said: "This is a devastating loss and my thoughts go out to Bailey and the rest of the family.

"Rest in peace Keigan, forever 18."

'Huge wave of support'

Keigan was also a supporter of Doncaster Rovers FC and fans attending the League One club's home match against Reading on Saturday are also planning a tribute to him in the 18th minute of the game.

Supporters club The Black Bank said it wanted to celebrate Keigan's life with a minute's applause as he and his family were "Rovers through and through".

It also proposed a tribute at the club's final home game in two weeks.

The football club told the BBC there was a "huge wave of support" for the tribute.

The driver of the Seat Leon that crashed into the tree, a 25-year-old man, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, South Yorkshire Police said on Wednesday.

The second passenger, 21, was treated for minor injuries.

A force spokesperson urged anyone who witnessed the crash or has any footage of what happened to come forward.
