Dr Carl Williams has been given the role

West Mercia Police has appointed a new assistant chief constable.

The force said Carl Williams, who was currently serving with Gwent Police, and had begun his career in 2006.

Williams will take responsibility for crime and vulnerability, overseeing major and serious organised crime investigations, strategic vulnerability, public contact, crime management, intelligence, and forensic departments.

The force, which covers Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire, added that his start date would be confirmed in due course.

The force currently has two assistant chief constable roles looking after different areas of policing, and two assistant chief officers managing commercial and business operations.
