Domino's Pizza has started advertising roles for its new Guernsey store

A leading global pizza chain is advertising for staff to work at a planned store in Guernsey - which will be the first for the island.

The BBC understands the new Domino's Pizza's takeaway store will be based at the Longstore site, in St Peter Port.

CI Coop submitted plans to reduce the size of the Longstore shop development on the seafront last year, and to turn part of it into a takeaway, which was approved.

The vacancies on the States of Guernsey website include a shift manager and store manager. It said the new Domino's Pizza store was "coming soon to Guernsey", and the BBC has contacted the chain for comment.

There are two Domino's chains in Jersey, one in St Helier and in St Brelade.

Local business Island Pizza said the introduction of a large international brand may "challenge the distinctiveness" of the local culinary landscape.

"But we also see it as an opportunity to strengthen the community's appreciation for what local businesses bring to the table", it said.

It said Island Pizza had been a local brand in Guernsey for seven years and it was committed to preserving the raw and authentic flavours that reflected the "true spirit of Guernsey's food scene".

"We look forward to continuing to serve our community with genuine, locally-inspired offerings," they added.
