New boardwalk aims to improve access to nature
North Lincolnshire CouncilA new boardwalk aimed at improving access to nature has opened at a country park in North Lincolnshire.
The £77,000 structure, which was completed over the summer, is located at Waters' Edge in Barton, close to the Humber Bridge.
It has been designed to improve links between the visitor centre, walking trails and key viewpoints across the wetlands, North Lincolnshire Council said.
Council leader Rob Waltham said it would enable more people to enjoy the outdoors.
"At a time of year when many people are looking for simple ways to get moving, clear their heads and enjoy the outdoors, this investment helps more residents do exactly that – right on their doorstep," Waltham added.
The project, which received government funding, is part of an initiative to support healthier lifestyles and tourism.
Councillor Christine Patterson, cabinet member for healthy lives and places, said: "Small, everyday choices like going for a walk make a real difference to people's health and wellbeing.
"This new boardwalk removes barriers and makes it easier for more people to get outside, be active and enjoy nature, especially at a time of year when that fresh air and movement really matter.
"Whether that's a short winter stroll, walking the dog, or simply taking time out in a peaceful setting," she added.
