A public car park could be created in a North Yorkshire resort as part of a "temporary" proposal by the landowner.

National Car Parks Ltd has applied for permission to turn a former hotel car park into a public car park for up to three years in Scarborough's North Bay.

The site, at 143 – 147 North Marine Road, would have capacity for 21 cars.

The planning application states it would be temporary while the landowners consider the building's future.

The plans say the site would continue to be accessed by cars from Queens Parade.

"Vehicles will enter and leave the site spread over the day as they would do currently, and as there are no material changes to the site, there is no visual impact on the street scene," documents state.

"The site has always been considered acceptable for the parking of cars."

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the application said the proposed change of use would be "less harmful" than if it were used for development and would help support the local economy.

North Yorkshire Council has not set a date for deciding on the plans.
